Boring Charleston

sweet tea vodka, craft fairs, and the first great day.

Yesterday is what Bernhardt calls “the best day yet in Charleston”.  Here’s what we did:

1) We went to the Charleston Farmer’s Market where we bought fresh pasta from RioBertilini’s Fresh Pasta stand.  Their weekly special, which is a noodle of your choice (or whatever is available) comes with a red sauce with 4-5 meatballs.  We usually ride our bikes with a freezer bag, buy the meal, and enjoy the day [all the while, keeping our dinner insulated].  Their pasta is always wonderful and very easy.  The weekly special, which is $8 every time, easily feeds four people a nice sized dish.  Perfect if you want to make an easy and impressive dinner.

2) We stopped at AC’s bar for a hamburger and a few games of pool.  Bernhardt reported that his burger was exactly what he was craving.  I opted for a snack of carrots and celery – if it’s ever on a menu I am sure to order it…I like crunching.  It was nice and low-key – we got there at noon and found it almost empty, but the crowd soon trickled in.  The crowd left us alone for the most part, but I found it welcoming.  People said “hi” a lot, which is kind of nice after 6 years in the city where a distance is kept.

3) After a 2 -1 game win for Bernhardt, we hit the street to the Read Brothers Craft Fair.  We found out about the even from flyers B saw at G&M the other night.  When we moved to town, we made a pact to check out every artist event we could – we’ve been to some that were a bust (I won’t lie) but this gathering at Read’s was pretty awesome.  We followed arrows on the Read Brothers building to the backyard area where, engulfed in trees and grass, we found the bike coop fixing bikes, artists and their wares, and selling lemonade.  We drank mugs Firefly sweet tea vodka and lemonade (B calls it the “Arnold Palmer after dusk” drink) and walked on to Clay Scales’ 52.5. where we bought a book and called it a fine afternoon.
